Introduction

World-wide there are two power distribution frequencies at work. Europe, Malaysia, China and a region of Japan operate at 50Hz whilst the Americas, Taiwan, Korea and the rest of Japan are supplied at 60Hz.

Most equipment will only operate at either 50Hz or 60Hz. Therefore globally we may find that certain equipment will not work due to the difference between the mains and equipment frequency.

For example:

• 60/50 Hz material fed by a 50/60 Hz mains
• Material existing only in a 50/60 Hz version
• Testing of equipment for export
• Relocation of an existing plant
